10 BEST DATE SPOTS 4 YA HONEY // LEEDS
When September comes, thousands of students return to uni,
updating their dating profiles with their new tanned holiday pics with the hope
of finding their winter link up. Tinder, Bumble and Hinge are flooded with new freshers all in search for their honey. But with so many of students not originating
from Leeds it can be hard to decide on a first date location which isn’t someone’s
mouldy student bedroom (no offence).
I have compiled a list of classic Leeds date spots which are
in varying in price, entertainment and boujeeness.
1.
Belgrave Music Hall – Cross Belgrave Street
For me Belgrave is the definition
of an edgy, aesthetically pleasing and cosy place for a first date. It has the
perfect neon glow, covered in arty posters, accompanied by the sounds of young
local DJs. It also offers the BEST pizza slices from Dough Boys and burgers made
by Patty Smiths, if you want something to eat too. However, the main attraction
is the rooftop garden with a bar, fairy lights and an amazing view of Leeds. The
1930s building also hosts comedy nights, cinema, live gigs and art shows, so
there is a large variety of events on all the time.
Price of a pint- £3.50
2.
Junk Yard Golf – The Light, The Headrow
This is the most cliché freshers date
choice but the mixture of alcohol and a sport that nobody actually gives a shit
about playing, breaks the ice quickly and is less intense than a sit-down
drink. If you are shy, doing something a bit active can break the initial awkwardness
as you are up and about in a busy place.
Don’t forget- you didn’t go to
Junk Yard golf if you didn’t get the photobooth pic at the end which verifies you
are THAT couple.
Price of a pint- £4.50
3.
Headrow House – 19a The Headrow
Boujee as hell but worth it for
the rooftop garden. Headrow is a multi-functional building which operates as a restaurant,
bar and music venue. Don’t be put off by the indie music venue lemon bleach smell
which follows you up the stairs, as you soon reach the haven which was invented
for Instagram posts. This is at the pricier end of the spectrum, but the huge iconic
neon sign and lo-fi DJ make up for it. Very moody, romantic and a bit wanky.
Ideal for a first date.
Price of a pint- £4/5
4.
Hyde Park Picture House – 73 Brudenell Road
If you are less alcohol driven
and prefer lowkey quirky dates, then a 1914’s original cinema may be the one
for you. Showcasing independent, foreign and classic films, its red velvet
seats and OG popcorn machine feel like a magical little step back in time. If you then feel like continuing the date, you are surrounded
by various casual pubs such as Brudenell Social Club and Royal Park to go get a
cheap pintarooni.
Student ticket price- £7
5.
Trinity Kitchen
If you are a foodie, I would recommend
a trip to Trinity Kitch. It is a casual, quirky and bustling food hall offering
you every type of cuisine at reasonable prices. It is located at the top of the
shopping centre so if you just want a quick bite to eat between lectures or
shopping it is a winner. It has the best burritos as well as great Thai, burgers,
pizzas and prosecco.
It has a fun variety of seating
and a colourful layout along with a photobooth which you can get an awkward overpriced
picture, which you’ll either never look at again or if you find a keeper, treasure
it and have it as a memento of your first ever date.
6.
Outlaws Yacht Club – 38 New York Street
This quirky bar and grill is
located in the city centre, tucked away with an immediately intimate vibe.
Serving perfectly feathered coffees, colourful cocktails and local beers. This cosy
yet casual environment is alluring with help from the DJs, board games and quiz
nights they also offer. Its also 2-4-1
cocktails every Wednesday all day and night!
Price of a pint- £3.75
7.
Leeds Art Gallery / Henry Moore Institute – The Headrow
If you are feeling a more casual,
less official date spot, mooching round a gallery is always a nice shout. There’s
something so relaxing about galleries, but more than anything it’s a good chance
to chat without too many distractions and it’s a bonus if the art is to your
taste! After you’ve had a chance to explore some culture you can then have an
overpriced coffee at the café.
8.
Kitty Café – 9 Kirkgate
If you are already exchanging pics
of your pets, then choosing an animal orientated date is a fun option. The
kitty café homes rescue cats which you can pet while having your coffees,
milkshakes or mocktails! Although no alcohol is involved it offers cats and
cakes so…….I wouldn’t say no. However, you do have to book a table in advance
so don’t turn up on day and end up in Greggs next door.
9.
The Alchemist – Trinity Centre
If you are looking for somewhere to
have a formal sit-down meal and drinks, The Alchemist has an amazing menu,
cocktails and a rooftop terrace. It has the perfect mood lighting, bubbling cocktails
and lots of halloumi. There are lots of vegetarian options as well!
Price of a glass of wine- £6-8 :/
10.
IF – 43 Call Lane
IF is a hidden rustic brunch café
which serves the best breakfasts in Leeds. Coffees, cakes and fresh juices. IF
is a perfect morning after place to get some eggs and avocado which is always
very peaceful, cosy and calming. Defo recommend after a big night. However, would
also be a perfect lil date spot for a casual coffee and cake.
I hope this list helps you choose
where to take your new chicka, you are welcome x
