The FKA Twigs Effect

It’s not often that an A-list celebrity uses their platform to talk about difficult personal issues. It can be seen as ‘bad press’ and ruin their workability. Since the #MeToo movement was created, it has become more common for women to speak out about their turbulent experiences with actors...and the media usually hounding them.

I feel slightly overwhelmed with the constant flow of abuse stories coming from Hollywood, everyday I read about another actor I admire involved in a scandal. It’s almost hard to watch a film without someone in it being involved in some sort of seedy scandal.

Aside from the recent accusations against Shia LaBoeuf, there have been stories of manipulation, abuse or messaging minors from other young successful actors such as Armie Hammer, Justin Timberlake, Ed Westwick, James Franco, Ansel Elgort...the list goes on.

The ‘Ted Bundy’

The first thing I think it is important to mention, is what I call the ‘Ted Bundy’. Seemingly attractive, talented and popular male stars that couldn't possibly be an abuser as they are so rich and famous and young!!!

Everytime I look on twitter after a story has broken about one of the Bundy’s I see stuff like “Omg I wish …… would do that to me?”

“He can rape me anytime he wants”

“She is attention seeking, he would never go for her”

Just because he's fit doesn't mean he isn't a terrible person?

We need to unlearn the stereotype that bad people are unattractive. Just because someone is attractive it doesn't mean they aren't dangerous. Hiding behind looks and charm is one of the easiest ways to get away with things. The unassuming handsome white male. Never!

The worst part is that their stories do tend to just get swept under the Hollywood rug along with all the other skeletons and film directors...but thats a story for anova time! πŸΈπŸ§‰

Consentual relationships can be abusive

People need to unlearn what they think abuse is. Abuse isn't just bruises and scars, there is so much mental torment intertwined. It is so easy to fall into that… ESPECIALLY when an A-list actor is paying you attention. It becomes very easy to forget your usual conduct and morals as you got a blue tick bundy in your dms.

Basically- bottom line is believe survivors. The percentage of people that lie is literally 0.01% and we owe it to them to at least listen and learn. Do you know how hard and painful it would be to tell everyone you’ve ever known that you were abused? Everyone knows the details of your sex life and the most intimate things about you. But women have to do this... as it could save another woman from it. Exposing details of your deepest darkest moments to the public to save someone from your ex?....That is SISTERHOOD.

This is exactly what happened with FKA Twigs. Margaret Qualley was seen having PDAs with Shia at the time FKA came forward. It was quite controversial that she was even involved with him after the scandal (but obvs we have no idea what he was potentially saying to her behind closed doors). And then it happened.

Margaret posted a thank you to FKA twigs for speaking up, and another sister was saved.

That’s why it's so important to listen to others, the mental torture of airing your worst memories to the public is anyone’s worst fear, why would they lie?

Big respect to FKA Twigs❤️
